As the campaigns for 2023 General Elections gather momentum, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Kebbi State Chapter, has called on Candidates of Political Parties in the State to select female running mates for positive contributions to the development of the State and the country at large.
In a statement in Kebbi, the Chairperson of the Association, Laiatu Augustine Bamaiyi, said politics in Nigeria in recent years had been dominated by men, thereby, “limiting women in participating meaningfully in public offices.”
“There is need for gender sensitivity in political arena. It is therefore pertinent to promote women participation in political leadership in Nigeria come 2023 General Elections,” she said.
Bamaiyi said it was against this backdrop that the Association strongly appeals to the leadership of the various Political Parties to, in the interest of inclusiveness, consider picking a woman as running mate for the office of Vice President and Deputy Governors.
The Association commended all Political Parties in Kebbi State for conducting peaceful primary elections.
It also congratulates the Winners, and wished them a more hitch free and successful election in the forthcoming secondary elections.
