Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says, over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to the statistical breakdown released on Monday, a total of 1,955,069 candidates sat for the 2025 UTME. Out of the number, only 420,415 scored above 200, representing just over 21% of the total candidates.
Further analysis shows that 7,658 candidates scored between 300 and 319, while only 4,756 scored above 320.

In a statement accompanying the results, JAMB also disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were granted special permission to participate in the examination to showcase their exceptional abilities.
However, just 467 of them — approximately 1.16% — met the threshold score considered indicative of exceptional performance. JAMB noted that the evaluation of these candidates will continue across three additional assessment stages.
