70 Medical Laboratory Scientists Inducted At Igbinedion University

Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), has inducted 70 Medical Laboratory Science graduates of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo, into the Council.

Our Correspondent reports that, the Registrar of the Council, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, administered the oath on the inductees on Tuesday, during the University’s 13th oath-taking and Induction Ceremony in Okada.

Erhabor, who was represented at the Induction Ceremony by Dr. Gregory Uchuno, a Director in the Council, enjoined the inductees to adhere to the ethics of the profession.

In his opening remarks, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Adeghe, Ezemonye, said the critical role of medical laboratory science in the health care delivery system cannot be over-emphasized adding that, it is the backbone of all the complex procedures carried out on patients specimens in clinical laboratories

“It is therefore pivotal to patient safety and the overall functionality of the health care system.

“Its operations require broad knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and Microbiology. The training for its professional demands institutional support continuously as it relates to human resources, infrastructural and technological investments for which the University has pursued with vigorous commitment from inception.

“It is significant that the University, for over two decades, has maintained the path of dominance and prominence in the Academic sphere, leading a visionary part to endless excellence,” he said.

Ezemonye noted that the University presently has all its courses accredited by the National University Commission and other relevant professional bodies.

He added that, the Department of Medical Laboratory Science was recently re-accredited for another five years.

“Thus, evidencing the University’s unrelenting dedication to ensure that our graduates are properly trained and equipped to compete with their counterparts globally.

“It is my hope that you will lift up the banner of IUO and be good Ambassadors of your Alma Mater wherever you find yourselves,” he added.

Prof. Mathias Emokpae, in his induction lecture, had told the Inductees that paying close attention to control, pre-analytical variables, would help ensure accurate test results in clinical laboratories.

Emokpae said good practice and compliance with strategies for errors prevention can lead to substantial reduction in pre analytical errors.

The lecture was titled Pre-Analytical Errors: Bane of Inaccurate Medical laboratory Results.
