Boat Kills 16, Floodings Displace 3,936 Households In Jigawa State

Report from Jigawa state, North West Nigeria says, 16 people have been killed in a boat mishap while Floodings from heavy downpour has displaced 3,936 households in 10 Local Governments Areas of the state.

Executive Secretary, Jigawa state  emergency relief agency, Dr Haruna Mairiga, disclosed this while giving update on the spate of flood disaster that ravaged the state.

Mairiga said, the affected ten local Gov areas include, Buji, Kafin hausa, Auyo, Hadejia, Birniwa, Malam madori, Garki, Taura, Gwaram and Dutse.

According to him over 27,440 hectares of farmlands have been washed away by the flood resulting in the loss of farm produce worth millions of naira.

Mairiga further stated that the agency had resettled over 3,834 families displaced by the flood and have been provided with relief materials mainly food items to cater for their welfare at their camps.
