Super Typhoon Yagi Kills Two, 92 Injured In China

Reports from Beijing, the capital of China say, Super Typhoon Yagi has left at least two people dead and 92 injured in the country’s southern island province of Hainan, local authorities reported, as cited by the state-run Xinhua News Agency on Saturday.

The fatalities occurred in Ding’an county, while 12 injuries were reported in the city of Wenchang and 80 in Haikou.

The typhoon made two landfalls in China on Friday, first striking Hainan before moving on to Guangdong province.

The storm caused widespread disruption across southern China, prompting schools in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Yangjiang to suspend classes on Friday, while universities delayed the start of their academic year.

In Hong Kong, all trading on the local stock exchange was suspended on Friday, and schools were closed as a safety measure.

The typhoon also severely impacted air travel, with numerous flights canceled across the region. — Agencies via SG
