Chief Imam of Zaidu Bin Sabit Jumaat Mosque, Naibawa, Kano, North-West Nigeria, Sheikh Bello Bala Usman, has admonished believers to remember that their time on earth is short and should know that everyday is a step towards the end
The Imam gave the advice, on Friday, in a sermon he delivered before leading congregation prayers.
“Don’t be carried away when you celebrate your birthdays. Remember, the birthday you celebrate lavishly with frenzy is a step towards the end of your life.
“Your birthday should be a time for sober reflections and self-examination preparatory to the end of your sojourn in life.
“Always remember that the birthday is a reduction of your years on earth, therefore, do good and worship God by obeying His Command,” he advised.
Sheikh Usman, also admonished the congregation to realise that God listen and hears everyone who raises up their hands in prayers towards Him for help without any hindrance or tribal considerations.
“You should not be deceived by anyone claiming spiritual superiority saying until they pray for you, God will not answer your prayers.
“Anyone who tells you that God will not answer your prayers until they pray for you is 419.
“They are liars and cheats who are out to defraud unsuspecting and desperate members of the public for their lack of education,” he warned.
The Chief Imam, therefore, advised the people to always request their needs only from God who is all sufficient.
“God is the only power that gives and takes. His generosity is beyond measurement,” he added.
Imam Usman, whose sermon was anchored on “The Greatness of God,” said the Almighty God does not need anything neither does He need help.
He warned those who go to the burial ground and stand before a grave of someone to offer prayers asking the dead to come to their help over their worldly challenges to desist from such act saying, “it is a sin that angers God.”
“You are asking a dead person in the grave to help you, do you know their condition?” he asked.
According to Imam Usman, the only thing a believer should do was to pray God for His mercy upon the dead and never to pray asking the dead to help them.
Usman, emphasised the need for the people to seek knowledge and ensure they keep company of those who are enlightened that will benefit them rather than following those without enlightenment that will lead them to doom.
