Zakat Will Eradicate Poverty In Nigeria – AZAWON

Association of Zakat and Waqf Operators in Nigeria, (AZAWON) says, the institutionalization of Zakat in Nigeria is paramount for the eradication of poverty and other economic and social inequality in the country.

Chairman of the Association, Engineer Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, stated this at a News Conference in Kano, North West Nigeria, in preparation for the fourth National Conference of the Association billed from the 12th to the 16th of December, 2024 in Hadejia, Jigawa state.

“Countries that have embraced Islamic social finance are winning the fight against abject poverty”, he explained.

He, therefore, appealed to Federal and State Governments to institutionalize Zakat and Waqf to address the current economic challenges and poverty at the grassroots.

Maidoki said, member organizations of the Association are committed to collection, disbursement and management of Zakat with utmost sense of responsibility and accountability.

“Collective effort is required in this difficult times to rescue Nigerian masses from destitution, illiteracy and poor access to health facility and decent life”, he added.

The Chairman appealed to the private sector and affluent to pay Zakat which is an obligation among five pillars of Islam.
