Akwa Ibom Police To Track Down ‘Iraq’ On The Run

Report from Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria says, the State Police Command is intensifying efforts to track down the alleged perpetrators of an attack on residents of Inua Eyet Ikot Phase 2 in Ibeno Local Government Area of the state.

A statement issued by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John said, the attack was carried out this Monday at about 2.45 am. led by their leader known as ‘Iraq’.

The statement said during the attack two buildings were set ablaze while one man has sustained gunshot wounds on his right leg and left shoulder.

He is now receiving treatment at a private hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Adamu Mohammed Bello, who was in the area on a fact-finding visit discovered that the attack was a cult clash.

It was gathered that the violence erupted when a suspected cult leader referred to as ‘Iraq’ led his gang to attack their rivals at a motel.

The Statement further said during the incident, four rooms were torched and two motorcycles burnt.

The Police has this Monday morning rescued one man met with gunshot wound at a nearby river.

Efforts are now in top gear to track down ‘Iraq’ and members of his gang.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says under the proactive leadership of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, it will remain resolute in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements.

It therefore appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
