Report from Edo State, South-South Nigeria says, the State House of Assembly has, on Wednesday, terminated the appointments of all political appointees attached to its members with immediate effect.
The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, announced their dismissal during a plenary session in Benin, the State capital.
Agbebaku stated that the decision was unanimously agreed upon by all the 24 members of the House, adding that the dismissed appointees would receive their February salaries.
He listed the affected appointees as special advisers, senior special advisers, and others.
The Speaker further explained that the appointees were initially engaged by House members upon the inauguration of the 8th Assembly in June 2023.
“I believe it has been nearly two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that these appointees, including special advisers and senior special advisers, should be relieved of their duties as of today, 19 February,” he said.
He added, “We will convene subsequently to determine the next course of action. However, they will receive their salaries for this month.”
