Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a thorough investigation into alleged police brutality and extortion against students of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, says in a bid to address their concerns, CP Azare, engaged the management of the school, students’ union government and other representatives in a peaceful dialogue.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s uncompromising dedication to upholding human rights and ensuring the safety of all citizens, including students.
He strongly condemned any act of misconduct by police officers, stressing that any personnel found guilty of unprofessional behavior would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police used the occasion to solicit continuous collaboration between students and law enforcement agencies to ensure a more secure environment.
