Police Uncovers Home For Child Trafficking In Akwa Ibom State

An illegal maternity home allegedly used for child trafficking, unlawful medical practice and impersonation has been uncovered by the Police at Usung Atiat, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, South-South Nigeria.

The operatives of the state police command who were acting on credible intelligence raided the premises and arrested one patience Ene Jimmy, who was found harbouring seven pregnant women and five infants aged between two weeks and one year.

A statement by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, says further search led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs and immunization records, for which the suspect has no legal authorization.

The rescued women and children are now under protective care while investigations are ongoing to uncover other collaborators and ensure justice is served.

Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Baba Mohammed Azare, reiterated the commitment of the command in dismantling illegal activities endangering vulnerable individuals.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
