Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero
The 15th Emir of Kano, North West Nigeria, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of all arrangements to hold the annual durbar celebration during the Eid-el-Fitr festival as planned.
Bayero disclosed this in a broadcast late on Wednesday night, citing security concerns as reasons for suspending the durbar arrangement.
Emir Bayero noted in the video that he had to cancel the celebration due to the efforts of respected Islamic Clerics and elders who prevailed on him to do so in the interest of peace.
“We had to call off the arrangement to conduct the durbar after respected Islamic Clerics and elders prevailed on us and after consultation with my counsellors,’’ Aminu Bayero said.
‘’Durbar celebration is not a do or die situation with us as the peaceful coexistence of the people is much paramount to us than anythinganything,” he added.
He, therefore, appealed to residents to use the occasion, instead, to visit families and friends with the opportunity of witnessing the Sallah celebration.
Emir Bayero prayed for continuous peace in the state and Nigeria at large.
Recall that the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, had notified security agents of his plan to hold durbar during the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, had directed the 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, with other emirs to prepare for the annual durbar celebration to commemorate Eid el-Fitr festival.
This has raised tension and security concerns in the ancient city of Kano, which has called for the police assuring residents of the safety of lives and property before, during and after the Sallah celebration.
