A senior Journalist with the BBC Hausa Service, Bilkisu Babangida, has died.
She reportedly died after a prolonged illness at a hospital in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
According to a family source — she died today, Tuesday, June, 2025.
According to Kano Times, Bilkisu joined the BBC in 2006 and began reporting from Maiduguri, Borno State, before she was later transferred to the Abuja Bureau.
Before joining the BBC, she worked with Kano State Radio Corporation and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN).
She also briefly worked with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA).
Bilkisu died at the age of 56. She is survived by two children and six grandchildren.
Her funeral prayer will be held at the National Mosque, Abuja, at 2:30 PM.
