A Two-Day Workshop On Access To Justice Ends In Kano

By Abubakar Tijjani Ibrahim

A two-day workshop designed to strengthen the capacity of pro bono lawyers in promoting access to justice and protecting the rights of the less privileged across Northern Nigeria has ended in Kano, North West Nigeria.

Our Correspondent reports that the workshop (30th – 31st October, 2025) was organized by Shield for Justice in collaboration with Amnesty International Nigeria and convened by Barrister Bulama Bukarti.

Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, who participated in the Workshop, commended the organizers and convener for their commitment to advancing human rights and improving legal aid delivery.

He emphasized that pro bono legal services are essential to ensuring justice remains equitable, inclusive, and accessible to all, regardless of social or economic background.

Maude also highlighted ongoing reforms in Kano State Ministry of Justice, including the establishment of a Committee on Human Rights Violations and Prolonged Detention of Inmates Awaiting Trial in Custodial Centres.

He noted that the Committee has submitted its report, which is currently under review to inform policy decisions and corrective measures aimed at strengthening justice delivery in the state.

The Attorney-General reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Kano State Ministry of Justice to uphold the rule of law, safeguard human rights, and foster collaborations that promote fairness and equity within the justice system.

The workshop attracted participation of legal practitioners, scholars, and human rights advocates from across Northern Nigeria, including Professor Auwalu Yadudu and other distinguished dignitaries.
