Seventeen students of Aminu Dabo College of Health Sciences and Technology, has been granted full scholarship by Senator Abdulrahaman Kawu Sumaila.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, who announced the scholarship during the formal unveiling of his Waraka Educational Support initiative, held on Friday at Grand Central Hotel, Kano, explained that the 17 students beneficiaries of the scholarships scheme were among the 100 drawn from all the 16 local government areas in the Kano South Senatorial District.
He further explained that the fully funded scholarship awards were introduced to enable the students of the area, particularly the less privileged in the society, pursue their studies, adding that the package covered full costs of tuition fees, accommodation and N10,000 upkeep monthly allowance for each beneficiary.
Sumaila, who is also the Founder of the Private University, Al-Is’tiqama University Sumaila maintained that this will service extremely in solving many problems bedeviling healthcare service delivery in the rural communities and the State in general.
“A committee has been set up to monitor and assess students’ behaviour and academic performance at the various institutions. Any student that fails to live up to expectations may lose the opportunity and thereby be withdrawn from the scheme,” he warned.
The Senator expressed the hope that after their successful graduation the scholarship award recipients will go back to their respective areas and serve, charging them to be good Ambassadors of their communities.
Proprietor of AD-COHST Arc Aminu Dabo commended the efforts of Senator Abdulrahaman Kawu Sumaila for giving a high premium to the promotion of health education in the State.
Dabo, who was represented by the Registrar of the College, Hajiya Halima Lawan Dambazau, gave special ovation to Senator Kawu Sumaila for selecting AD-CONS as one of the private health institutions to train the students in two fields of study.
He noted that the decision to sponsor 17 students to study Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery at Aminu Dabo College of Nursing Sciences, Kano is a worthy idea that will add value and provide healthcare service delivery to the doorsteps of the community.
He re-assured that AD-CONS as one of the reputable private health institutions in the state, will continue to provide quality education with a view to getting qualified middle level health personnel that could support hospital manpower in any location.
Dabo, called on other political office holders, well-to-do individuals and organizations in the society to emulate the Waraka Educational Support lnitiative in order to compliment government efforts towards the improvement of healthcare service delivery in the state.
The Proprietor congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to live up to expectations at the college by concentrating on their studies and upholding the trust and confidence reposed in them by the sponsor.
A statement by College’s Head, PR & Publicity, Abdullahi Usman said highlights of the events were the presentations of letters of scholarship awards and Bank customised ATM cards to each of the 100 beneficiary students.
