Kano State Government Warns Against Illegal Felling Of Trees

Kano State Government has warned against Illegal Felling Of trees across the state.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Nasiru Sule Garo, who gave the warning in a statement on Friday, described those engaging in the act as unpatriotic citizens who will be made to face the wrath of the law.

Nigerian Kicker learnt that the Commissioner spoke while in a special inspection tour of the work done by the Kano State government and The National Agency for the Great Green Wall, in the areas of Shelter belts, Wood lock, Nurseries and other Plantation Services at Danbatta, Makoda, Kunchi and some parts of Bichi local government Areas.

“I appreciate the status of these location Sites. Always be mindful of the seedlings to support government by looking after them, nursing them to the mature level by Way of protecting them to guide against climate change issues and other land degradation,” Garo emphasized.

“This inspection is conducted as a result of the Governor’s directives to see what’s been done before by the government and the GGW and advice on how best to utilize this locations again for this year’s occasion by the Great Green World.”

Director of Public Enlightenment of the State Ministry of Environment, Ismail Garba Gwammaja, said during the inspection visit to Fagwalawa in Danbatta local government area, the Commissioner came across an individual who was felling  trees completely for fire-wood along the main road adding that the Commissioner expressed worried on “this negative attitude” and warned vehemently that people should desist because of its consequences to “our environment and ecosystem”.
