Nigeria’s Federal and State Governments are currently considering the establishment of state police.
This is in a bid to combat the security challenges in the country.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, stated this on Thursday while briefing the State House Correspondents after meeting with President Bola Tinubu and the State Governors.
The Minister, however said, although the governments have agreed to consider the calls to establish the state police, more work may still need to be done.
“The federal government and the governors are considering the possibility of establishing state police. Of course, this is still going to be further discussed, and a lot of work has to be done in that direction.
“This is a significant shift, but like I said, more work needs to be done.
“Many meetings will happen between the FG and the sub-nationals to see the modalities of achieving this,” he added.
