An Islamic Scholar and Secretary-General, Jama’atu Nasril Islam, (JNI), Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, has expressed concern over what he described as “the use of social media” by some members of Nigeria’s Ulama to tout their scholarship and enrage one another with derogatory commentaries.
Nigerian Kicker reports that Professor Aliyu stated his observation on the development while delivering sermon on Friday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, North Central Nigeria.
According to the JNI Sec-General, the development “is an aberration” from the duty of Mallams, who he noted are suppose to teach the people and direct them to God towards obeying His command.
“Have you ever seen Millionaires or Billionaires in front of a camera making negative statements against their Billionaire counterparts?
“Have you ever seen top Politicians in front of a camera abusing their fellow opposition? ” he asked.
Prof. Khalid Aliyu, who is also the Chief Imam of Fiber Juma’at Mosque, Jos expressed disgust over the trend of social media usage by some members of Ulama expressing envy, jealousy and hatred of one another.
He called on those involved to retract their steps and embrace Allah for their own development and the development of the society.
The Imam further admonished the listening congregation to know that, by design, life is full of challenges which cause people to have incessant misunderstandings, but cautioned that people should not allow little misunderstanding, that can be settled in a minute, to degenerate into hatred, jealousy, envy and enmity.
“What is happening today, we have hatred and envy among brothers, friends, Co-wokers, matrimonial homes, without regard to the command of the consciousness of God at all times.
“Brothers and sisters, free your mind from enmity, hatred, bitterness, and envy which are the cause of strife among the people,” he said.
While praying for God to bring succour to the economic challenges of the time, Prof Aliyua dvised the people to embrace peace wherever they find themselves.
