Chief Imam of 551, Nigerian Air Force Station Central Mosque Jos, North Central Nigeria, Flight Lieutenant Imran Zakariyya Hassan, has reminded Muslim Umah to beware of activities that can dent their fasting.

Hassan, gave the admonition, on Friday in a sermon he delivered and sent to Nigerian Kicker.

He said “the month of Ramadan is a blessed month that the reward attached to righteous deeds are multiplied hence, Muslims are urged to leverage by striving harder, both in righteous and meritorious deeds.

“However, there are some activities that dent the fasting of the Muslims during Ramadan,” he said.

According to him, excessive sleeping consumes one’s time and prevents one from many beneficial acts such as congregational prayer in the Mosque, Quranic recitation and attending the Islamic cycle in the Mosque.

He therefore warned against nights chatting on social media or engaging in chitchat which make them spend their days sleeping thereby missing the congregational prayers.

The Imam also observed that many people spend their whole days at their work places pointing out that “this make them to hardly have time for righteous deeds during Ramadan.

Imam Hassan noted what he called Artificial Inflation and Food Scarcity that “always herald” fasting and said it was  worrisome to see “how some Muslim traders increase the prices of goods and commodities during the month of Ramadan”.

“The month known as a month of generosity is considered by some cruel traders as a month to exploit the masses and inflict more hardship on them.

“Preferably, this is a month that prices of foods and commodities supposed to be subsidized for the sake of Allah.

“This humane act to the masses will attract Allah’s mercy on all and sundry. Any trader that relieves his brother from grief or any economic stress will be relieved from the calamity of the Day of Resurrection.

“More so, some wealthy traders and government officials preferred sponsoring some religious programs such as airing of Tafsir programs and Ramadan quiz on the TV stations. Some engaged in such act to gain fame while others do so for show off.

“We have many poor and the needy in our community. Channelling one’s wealth towards the needy by providing succour to them in this blessed month is far better than sponsoring religious programs while our brothers are suffering from hunger,” he said.
