Advancing Export Business In Nigeria

Hauwa Yakubu

Warm greetings to all Nigerians and especially the readers of Nigerian Kicker Online Newspaper.

Compliment of the season.

This is the first edition of this Column where I shall be discussing, weekly, issues in Export business in Nigeria and the way forward.

Talking about Export business in Nigeria, I can proudly say that Nigeria has the business for international Trade with all its diverse natural resources.

Let’s talk about Export and Financing in Nigeria.

Financing

I am calling the attention of Nigerian Government to consider economic vulnerability and promotion of Export in Nigeria. It’s no more news that, Nigeria is a country blessed in diverse agriculture and minerals resources. The government needs to focus on export rather than import.

However, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council needs to educate and uplift Nigerians to embrace professionalism in the export business because they need practical demonstrations and training on export processes, rather than just theoretical discussions.

I believe many Nigerians are eager for a comprehensive approach and the Government needs to provide Workshops and mentorship programs for them.

Also they need on-site training and factory visits including interactive sessions with seasoned Exporters. Further more, they need access to experts in the industry because they appear tired of the status quo.

Let’s revolutionize Nigeria’s export industry through empirical knowledge and expertise or in a more concise format: practical export trainings, Workshops and Mentorship.

The Government also needs to empower Exporters with hands-on experience and export financing by making it accessible in other to boost the country’s GDP.

As we know, Nigeria’s economy is heavily dependent on oil and gas exports, which makes it vulnerable to fluctuations in oil prices.

Promoting export of other goods and services can help diversify the economy and reduce vulnerability to oil price shocks.

Also, promoting exports can create more jobs in the manufacturing and services sectors, helping to address the high unemployment rate in Nigeria and boost the economy.

Therefore, Nigeria government needs to promote export and trade financing taking advantage of its abundant natural resources which can provide a great opportunity for the growth of the nation   and support vulnerable exporters.

The Government can achieve this by developing a comprehensive export strategy with a focus on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) in the agricultural and mining sectors.

Financial Support

The government can provide financial assistance to exporters through initiatives such as export credit facility guarantees and export financing programs.

The government should focus and empower those who are serious, willing and ready for the business with adequate means.
