A two-day pre-eye-surgery outreach is on going at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, (AKTH) Kano, North West Nigeria.
Nigerian Kicker reports that the outreach, which began on Sunday 24th August, 2025, is expected to attend to 300 patients free of charge beginning from 8 a.m to 5 p.m daily.
The outreach, which is sponsored by AMA Foundation, is in two sections. One is the eye screening section for the patients and the other is the blood screening for the patients.

“Basically what we do here is to register the patients, test their eyes and do recommendation where necessary.
“After the test, it will determine whether the patient needs surgery, we now send the patient to the blood screening section,” he said.

Nigerian Kicker was also at the Serological Department where blood screening is also taking place simultaneously.
An official of the section, Umar Faruq Muhammad says, blood screening is next to surgery after taken biometry, issuing of IOL (Lenses) and signing of consent.
According to Muhammad, “it is after a successful surgery that glasses and drugs are recommended.”
