AKTH Organises Orientation For Medical Lab Scientists

Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, North West, Nigeria, has organized orientation for the new Interns Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Addressing the participants, Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists(ALMS) Kano State Chapter, Comrade Abubakar Tukur, urged both the workers and students particularly the medical laboratory scientists as well as those aspiring to become one to be disciplined and have the fear God in their hearts while discharge their duties.

He explained that the role being played by the medical laboratory scientists in the evaluation of diseases and guidance in diagnoses cannot be over emphasized and urged them not to relent.

In his remarks, Deputy Director Medical Laboratory Scientists, DR Nasiru Magaji incharge of Microbiology Laboratory of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital spoke on the samples handled in the microbiology lab as well as the process of treating them with a view to producing correct and accurate results.

He warned the students on the dangers of producing results that doesn’t reach its incubation period.

DR Magaji said that any laboratory results produced in a rush will likely end up misleading the clinician, the pharmacist as well as the patient.

Also Commenting, the Deputy Director information/Public Relations Unit of Akth, Hauwa Muhd Abdullahi, advised the Interns to endeavor to self-educate themselves about Aminu Kano Teaching hospital, its Mission and Vision, the departments both Clinical and Non clinical, their locations, the speciality Clinics/ Specialized services/investigations as well as when they are being provided.

According to her, doing so is with a view to aquaring better knowledge of the hospital and giving correct information especially to clients that are coming from else where to seek for service in the hospital.

Hauwa Muhammad advised on good approach while communicating with clients and patient relations with a view to portraying better image of the hospital.

Chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists(ALMS) Akth branch Scientist Muhd Kabir and that of local Organizing Committee Scientist Ado Muhd Dakata in their separate speeches assured the Interns of their proper guidance throughout their one year training in the hospital and advised them of punctuality, obedience, discipline and dedication.
