‘Attacks In Plateau Are Perpetration Not Communal Disputes’ – Jang

Senator Jonah David Jang

Following the recent wave of deadly attacks in Plateau communities, former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah David Jang, has spoken out strongly saying the “attacks are not merely communal disputes, they are perpetrated by a known group with a specific agenda.”

In a statement issued on April 15, 2025, Jang expressed deep sorrow over the incessant killings and extended his condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Plateau State.

“These senseless killings have caused pain and suffering for our great state and its people, and we must take immediate action to put an end to this violence,” Jang said.

He praised the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for what he described as “tireless efforts” to restore peace and protect the lives of citizens.

“I commend Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his tireless efforts to find a lasting solution to this crisis,” he stated.

Jang also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ending the violence, but expressed concern over what he termed a misunderstanding of the situation by presidential advisers.

“The attacks in Plateau State are not merely communal disputes; they are perpetrated by a known group with a specific agenda,” Jang said, cautioning against framing the violence as communal.

He urged President Tinubu to convene a broader consultation with community leaders to understand the true nature of the crisis and design an informed response.

“Such a meeting would provide a platform for stakeholders to share their insights and experiences,” Jang added.

He called on the people of Plateau State to remain vigilant and united, urging them to resist any attempt to undermine their identity and existence.

“As peace-loving and welcoming citizens, we have endured enough. It is time for us to defend ourselves against these aggressors and demand justice,” he said.

Jang ended his statement with a renewed pledge to stand by the people of Plateau State during these difficult times and to continue advocating peace and justice.

“I reiterate my condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirm my commitment to standing with the people of Plateau State,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, Plateau state Government has condemned in strong terms unprovoked attack by gunmen on Zike and Kimakpa communities of Kwall district Miango, Bassa local government area of the state.

In a swift response to the attacks, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwamg has convened an expanded security Council meeting to address the escalating insecurity in the state.
