Report from Benue State, North Central Nigeria says, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Aondoaver Berger Alfred Emberga, has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the contractor responsible for the renovation of the Assembly Complex, demanding that the project be completed or risk investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Emberga, reportedly issued the warning on Wednesday, October 16, 2025, during an inspection visit to the project site with other members of the Assembly.

The lawmakers discovered that the contractor had abandoned the renovation work, locking up the premises despite reportedly receiving full payment for the contract.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, the Speaker lamented that the delay had disrupted legislative activities, forcing members to conduct plenary sessions using plastic chairs.
He warned that if the contractor fails to complete and hand over the project by the end of October, the House would formally petition the EFCC and ICPC to investigate possible financial misconduct.
According to a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Michael Zape, the Speaker also indicated that the House might summon officials from the Ministry of Works to present the contract documents for a thorough review of the project’s specifications.
The Speaker reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that the 2026 budget presentation by the Executive Governor of Benue State takes place in a fully renovated and functional legislative complex. – DP
