Blind UTME Candidate Caught Impersonating Another Blind Candidate

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) has uncovered an impersonation case involving a blind candidate who hired another blind individual, an undergraduate, to sit for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on his behalf.

JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

Oloyede expressed disappointment over the incident, particularly given the board’s continued efforts to assist candidates with disabilities in accessing higher education opportunities.

He commended the work of the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG), led by Prof. Peter Okebukola, which ensures visually impaired candidates are supported throughout the examination process.

The board provides extensive support to these candidates, including full refunds of registration fees, transportation, accommodation, and meals during the exam.

“For the 2025 UTME, 501 blind candidates were examined by JEOG at 11 centres nationwide. Unfortunately, one of them arranged for another blind undergraduate to impersonate him,” Oloyede disclosed.

The results of the 2025 UTME were officially released on Friday. JAMB reported that out of the 1.9 million candidates who took the exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200 marks, which is the midpoint in the total score of 400.

The UTME consists of four subjects, with the Use of English being mandatory, and three additional subjects chosen according to the candidate’s intended course of study.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, commented on the performance data, stating that the results reflect the positive effects of the government’s efforts to combat examination malpractice and uphold the integrity of the nation’s educational system.
