Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, North West Nigeria, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, has approved the appointment of Dr. Zakari Sabiu Yarima as Acting Director of the Security Division of the University.
A statement by the Deputy Registrar/Head of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba says, the appointment is with immediate effect.
Until his appointment, Dr. Zakari was the immediate past Head of department of Sociology. He had served in the security Division of the University where he rose to the rank of Assistant Security Chief.
The BUK Vice Chancellor has congratulated the new appointee saying the appointment was based on “merit.”
“The BUK Management has developed a zero tolerance on any security lapse,” he added.
Proffessor Abbas promised to overhaul the security machinery with a view to taking drastic measures to ensure adequate security within the campuses.
The new appointee was born in Dayi Village in Malumfashi Local government Area of Katsina State. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws, (LL.B); M.Sc Sociology and Ph.D in Sociology.
Dr. Zakari Yarima joined the services of Bayero University, Kano in 1998 as a security Officer and rose to the rank of Assistant Chief Security Officer where he left to join the academic cadre in 2013.
He was elected head of Department of Sociology from 2022 – 2024 and appointed Deputy Director, Centre for Gender Studies in 2024 to date.
Prior to joining Bayero University, Kano, Dr. Zakari was an officer in the Nigerian Police from 1987 – 1995.
The Acting Director of Security, who is currently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, served in a number of Committees in the University.
