President of the Nigerian Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has advised Nigerians to do away with fears despite the daunting challenges facing the country.
Okoh was speaking on Sunday in Abuja at the “Service of Nine Lessons and Carol 2022” monitored by our correspondent in Jos, Plateau State.
The Service was co-organised by the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Voice of Nigeria (VON).
The CAN President, who spoke on the theme “Fear not; Lay down your fears,” alluded to God’s command in the Bible and emphasized that fear is the greatest weapon used by the enemy to destroy people.
He said, there is high level of insecurity and uncertainty in the country whereby citizens live in fears and cannot move freely to do their legitimate activities.
“The 2023 General elections is around the corner, many people are not sure of the outcome. Some think of violence and are already seeing arsonists allegedly destroying election materials.
“People are displaced from their homes due to insecurity. This situation is frightening,” he said.
Archbishop Okoh, noted that fears lead to irreparable mistake adding that the enemy can use it to take away the nation.
He advised the people that, despite these challenges, citizens should not live in fears rather, they should remember the story of Christians in the Bible which, according to him, addresses the issue of fear.
“We should not allow fears stop loving our neighbours. Christians should promote understanding and unity. We should not speak language of division. Speak language of peace. Embrace and engage others in serious conversation that will promote peace,” he advised.
The Archbishop observed that today, the world is moving towards exclusivity but reminded Nigerians that they have no choice than to live in harmony with one another as one entity.
On the political scene, the CAN President called on leaders to let the resources of governance be shared equitably adding that inclusiveness will reduce the level of insecurity.
“Men may have their own idea of good leaders but, it is God that choses. Go out courageously to vote the leader of your choice. Don’t stay behind,” he further advised.
Okoh, advised those seeking political offices to surrender to God saying no matter the strategies they may deployed towards clinching their positions, it is God that will ultimately chose the leader.
He, therefore, prayed God to give the country a good leader come 2023.
