A don from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof. Ahmed Bello Dogarawa says, consultation is the backbone of good governance.
He stated this on Friday during the 62nd Independence Day Special Juma’at Prayers and Public Lecture held in Abuja.
Prof. Dogarawa, who was the Guest Speaker at the occasion, quoted copiously from the Quran and the Hadith emphasing that consultation (Shurah) is the foundation of democracy and urged leaders to consult in whatever they do for the benefit of all.
“Hereafter, Allah will ask leaders at all levels, “did I not make you a leader? What did you do with it?
“Governance is bringing people closer to good and far from evil,” he reminded the people.
Dogarawa, a Professor of Accounting said, leadership was a trust and a humiliation hereafter for those who failed to govern their people in good faith.
He also advised Nigerians to shun hate speech, abusive language as well as tribalism especially as the 2023 general elections draws nearer.
Our correspondent reports that His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, was the Chairman of the occasion.
