Dr. Aliyu stated this after Breakfast meeting with media executives in Lagos stressing the Commission’s commitment to protecting suspects’ rights, Whistle blower and integrity of investigation through strategic communications.
He reminded the media of their crucial role in combating corruption and promoting transparency in Nigeria.

According to the Chairman, in 2024, the IPCC reached out to over 1.4 million people through community engagements and issued 1088 Press Releases generating 1860 news reports.
“If the benefits of corruption is high and the risk is low, people will keep on engaging in corruption. If people know that if you engage in corruption the punishment is going to be very harsh people will abstain.
“That is why we need to look, how can we strengthen our laws to ensure that those who engage in corruption are punished seriously,” he asked rhetorically.
“Also, you the media, you have a role to play in sensitising Nigerians that those who are trying, please try to support them,” the IPCC Chairman added.
Also speaking, the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba said, corruption, instead of judicial promotion in Abuja, is huge and outweighs on the quality of judgements delivered.
“Mr Chairman, the biggest thing you have done is to come here to show transparency. You said corruption thrives when there is silence. I also said it and I will add to that. Corruption thrives when there is darkness, when it is hidden.
“So, your coming out here suggests that you really want to fight corruption in partnership with my colleagues. You have to continue.
“If you want to work with the media with the way you have shown, honestly the media will work with you and Nigeria will be better for it,” Anaba said.
