Court Jails Man For Raping Two women He Brought To UK From Uganda

Charles Isabirye was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Charles Isabirye promised the women work and a place to live when he brought them into the country, but neither ever transpired, Leicestershire Police said.

According to BBC, he denied the offences during his trial at Leicester Crown Court and claimed his victims made up their allegations in collusion with each other, the force added.

The 48-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in prison on Wednesday.

The trial heard Isabirye’s first victim reported she had been raped to police in 2022, but did not feel able to pursue the complaint at that time.

The second victim came forward in 2023 and police then contacted the first victim again, who then made a full report.

Isabirye, formerly of Loughborough, was found guilty of four counts of rape, breaching a restraining order and three counts of witness intimidation.

He was also made subject of a sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order which prohibits any contact with the victims and has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Det Con Sarah Le Boutillier added: “I have nothing but praise for the victims in this case, not only for coming forward and reporting what happened to them, but for the bravery they showed in court throughout a lengthy, difficult trial.

“Isabirye sought to discredit them at every opportunity.

“While it doesn’t change what they went through, I hope they find some comfort in knowing he’s in prison for a significant amount of time.” – BBC
