Demolition: Traders, Shop Owners Petition Kano State Police Command

In a new twist, Traders and shop owners of the Masallaci Eid prayer ground in Kano, North West Nigeria, have petitioned the Kano State Police Command over the “unlawful demolition of their shops by the Kano State government.”

At a Press Conference on Thursday at the Kano Press Centre, Counsel to the Petitioners, Masallacin Eid Shop Owners and Traders Association, Ma’aruf Muhammad Yakasai, said the formal complaint is based on “criminal conspiracy, theft, criminal misappropriation and mischief contrary to sections 97, 286, 308, and 326 of the penalty code laws of Kano State respectively” against Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Muhammad Diggol and others.

The counsel explained that the destruction of his client’s property “have rendered the victims helpless, poor and jobless without any justification whatsoever.”

He added that some of the victims have “lost their lives while some are now sick with different ailments.”

The Counsel hinted that a total estimated value of the properties lost and destroyed is 260 -Billion Naira.

“We the members of the association have suffered from psychological trauma as a result of the unlawful acts of the suspects either directly or indirectly, destruction and loss of their properties worth billions of Naira which were stolen in addition to the loss of business and means of livelihoods”

The association, therefore, appealed to the state Commissioner of Police to use his good offices to cause a criminal investigation to be conducted in the case with a view to ensuring justice.

It also wants the State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, especially with respect to offences against property and humanity

“We need the criminal aspect to be investigated and the guilty to face the full wrath of the law”.
