Kano State Commissioner of Information, Alhaji Baba Halilu Dantiye, has again re-echoed the state government’s commitment to support the development and advancement of journalism practice across the state.
The Commissioner gave the assurance while addressing Journalists at a one-day capacity building training organised by Association of Online Media Guild held at Kano State NUJ Press center, North West Nigeria.
Dantiye, who was emphatic about training and re-training of personnel, assured the organisers of the training that the current administration in the state has human capacity building as one of its cardinal focus.
“We will support you in any way to strengthen your capacity in your profession,” he promised.

He, however, warned that the issue of fake news, which according to him, “is mostly associated with online platforms” would not be tolerated.
“You are trained Journalists, therefore, you should distance yourself from fake news. Confirm all aspects of a story before publication.
“Always allow journalism ethics reflect in your practice. By so doing, readers would distinguish between peddlers of fake news and the professionals,” he advised.
Earlier, the interim Chairman, Association of Online Media Guild, Alhaji Abdullatif Abubakar Jos, said the training is part of efforts to improve the professional capacity of the members.
“This is the era of multimedia which gives information very fast. Members of our Association cut across the country.
“Our aim is to have quarterly training of our members to enhance their participation in all professional fora,” he said
I her brief remarks, Kano state Chairperson of National Association of Women Journalists, Hajiya Hafsat Sani, urged the participants to put what they will learn from the training into practice.
