Report from Lagos, the Lagos State capital says, an “irate driver” has crushed two street sweepers from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to death on Gbagada expressway, leading to a skirmish in the area.

According to PM News, the driver was said to be evading arrest from the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) officers when he ran into the two street sweepers around Charly Boy Bus stop, Gbagada expressway on Monday.

The incident led to a protest in the area, with hoodlums hijacking it. There was massive gridlock on the expressway for over an hour as hoodlums blocked the expressway and refused anyone to move.

Protesters accused officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) of chasing the driver who crushed the LAWMA workers to death.

Several policemen were drafted to the area to maintain sanity and were able to dislodge the protesters and open the blockage on the road.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said, normalcy has returned to the area as the police successfully opened the blocked road.

“Most definitely, we will not allow a breakdown of law and order,” he tweeted on X after retweeting a post by Jubril Gawat, which said “Gbagada Expressway … ALL CLEAR at the moment. The Nigeria Police formations are still on ground to forestall breakdown of Law and Order.”
