Eggs Glut Hits Plateau State

By Luka Retle Kumbet

Plateau State Government has expressed worries over abundant eggs production across the State.

The Government, in a statement on Thursday, expressed worries over the situation, noting with concern that “there is a significant glut of eggs in the state which is affecting most families particularly poultry farmers.”

The Government observed that though egg business “is a thriving enterprise in the State and a source of income and sustainance for a large number of families,” it will do its best to address the situation.

The State Governor,  Simon Bako Lalong has, therefore, directed that such excess eggs be immediately mopped up and distributed to Orphanages, Prisons, Schools and Hospitals in the State.

The statement further explained that the State Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has been mandated to liaise with officials of the Poultry Farmers Association and relevant bodies to work out modalities for implementing the policy with immediate effect.

This, it said, is to save the industry from further decline.

The statement urged members of the public and relevant organisations to cooperate with the Government and its relevant Agencies towards implementing the policy.
