Evacuated Students From Sudan To Secure Places In Nigerian Institutions – FG

Federal Government says, there are plans to secure placement for Nigerian students who were evacuated from war-torn Sudan into the country’s institution of higher learning with their respective courses.

It said this will be with the support of the Federal Ministry of Education.

Head of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, NIDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said in a statement yesterday that the evacuees, the fourth batch of 131 persons comprising 123 adults and 8 infants, who arrived in Abuja at 2.35 pm, were told that no Nigerian will be left behind in war-torn Sudan as President Muhammadu Buhari has given the committee the necessary support to bring back home any willing Nigerian.

“Another flight is expected today (Sunday) as the Government was about to conclude all the necessary clearance for them to take off. Three evacuees that sustained injuries have been moved to the hospital,” Balogun said.

According to him, in line with the traditional support laid down, each of the returnees was given N100,000 and a bag courtesy of Dangote Foundation while MTN supported with a Sim pack and call credit of N25,000 as well as 1.5 G Data.

He also said that most of the students interviewed regretted the war situation in Sudan, thanking the Federal Government for coming promptly to their rescue, but pleaded that urgent steps be taken to hasten the evacuation of their colleagues still trapped in the war zone in Sudan.
