A one-day capacity Building Worksop on Tax Administration for Media Practitioners was held on Thursday in Kano

Our Correspondent reports that the Workshop was organized by the Federal Inland Revenue Service with the collaboration of Afropolitan Media Limited at the Press Centre of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

The workshop has as its theme “The Role of the Federal Inland Revenue Service in driving Tax Administration for Nation Building “.

The lead Speaker, Dr. Salisu Maigoshi of the Bayero University Kano presented papers on the “General Overview of the Nigerian Tax Ecosystem, “FIRS: Roles, Responsibilities and Administration” as well as “Reforms and Innovations in the FIRS”.
The workshop provided an avenue for the Media Practitioners to understand the rudiments and importance of taxation in Nigeria and the roles expected of them in the sensitization of the general public on tax matters.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Afropolitan Media Limited, Aisha Umar Haliru, said the workshop was designed to update the participants on the current challenges faced by Tax Authorities such as the FIRS and the reforms introduced to tackle those challenges.

Chairman Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim, said the workshop has further broadened the knowledge of Journalists in the state on Tax Administration in Nigeria.
