Kano State Government, has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of its dams.
The action follows the devastating floods in Nigeria especially in Borno state, North East Nigeria.
The Government has, therefore, inspected Tiga Dam led by Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, Commissioner for Works as well as accompanied by experts from their respective ministries.
The inspection aimed to assess the dam’s condition and alleviate concerns raised by the recent situation at the Alo Dam.
“What happened at the Alo Dam sent a very negative signal to Nigerians. That’s why His Excellency directed us to be here today,” Makoda explained
Built between 1971 and 1974, the Tiga Dam is a significant reservoir on the Kano River, with a maximum capacity of nearly 2 billion cubic meters.
Though, managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, the state government’s inspection ensures that everything is in good condition.
“We have listened to the experts, and all indications show that the dam is intact. There’s nothing to worry about.”
The inspection is part of the state’s proactive measures to prevent potential flooding disasters as the rainy season intensifies.
He added that the team will expect other key dams in the state, including Bagwai Dam and Challawa Dam.
