Report from Kano, the capital of Kano State, North West Nigeria says, Football stakeholders have converged on Kano to strategize on their possible contributions to the 2026 World Cup with the theme: Building Peace Through Sports.
Nigerian Kicker reports that the stakeholders meeting, held at American Space, Kano Library Complex, Ahmadu Bello Way in Kano metropolis, was organized by Sahel Sports News in collaboration with the Kano state Library Board powered by Fortress Centre for Human Rights and peace Initiative Network.
In his address of welcome, the Editor-in-Chief, Sahel Sports News, Chief Kasali Obanoyen, expressed profound happiness for the conveyance and attendance of the meeting describing it as “first of its kind in the region.”

Obanoyen, who participated in the meeting through a phone call from the United States, noted with disaffection what he called, “the dwindling Sports Facilities in the country” and called on the various Governments to help build the Sports by encouraging the younger ones to participate.
He said, though Nigeria was out of the 2026 World Cup, stakeholders should not be discouraged adding that it was now very important to move on with more trainings and preparations for the future.
“This meeting in Kano is so unique in preparing the gate-way and access to information and dissemination of how things will reach out to Nigeria, to people in Kano, to people in Maiduguri, to people in Owo, and to people in Abuja outside the territory that is not functioning…”
“I must commend you for bringing this and making the link for fans of Football as well as safety and advocacy”, he said.
Obanoyen, commended Dr Abdulgafar Oladimeji for his vision in organizing the forum.
Also addressing the meeting through a phone call from Lagos, Chairman, Kano Chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Aliyu Abdullahi Sumaila, commended the theme of the meeting saying, it was crucial in the sense that only Peace can bring about meaningful development in the society.
“It is important for us to tell our own story as it is.
” Sports can open widow for collaboration and discussions.
“The FIFA 2026 provides us opportunity to tell our own stories.
“After the 2026 World Cup, how do we sustain all the successful outcomes?, he asked.
Sumaila urged the Nigerian media to focus their writings on the encouragement of the establishment of institutions that will promote sports.
Good will messages delivered by many participants focused on Peace building through sports.
