History was made in Tarauni Village in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State, North West Nigeria on Monday, when three elderly men including a 77-year- old completed the full memorization of the Holy Quran.
Our Correspondent reports that the 77-year-old Umar Halliru Tarauni, is a retired Technician, while the other two, Nasir Garba Tarauni 66-year-old, is a retired Civil Servant turned farmer and Jibrin Ya’u Tarauni, 60-year-old, is an automobile garage owner.
For the Trio, it had been a journey of patience and perseverance which started 18 years ago.
Their Quranic Teacher, Ustaz Sani Gambo, is a younger brother and also the Imam of Babban Gida Mosque in Tarauni Kudu of Tarauni Quarters where he lectures his students.
Their time of study in the last eighteen years had been after the Subhi (morning) prayers which they attend either collectively or individually.
The trio told Nigerian Kicker that many of their children and grandchildren are experts in the recitation of the Holy Quran.
They described their feat as a fulfilment in life having failed to do it when they were young.
“This is the fourth time the trio were able to learn the full memorization of the Holy Quran in the last eighteen years.
“A good Samaritan is planning to construct an Islamiyya school for me through which he will be able to train more people on the study of the Holy Quran,” their Teacher Ustaz Sani Gambo said.
He, however, did not disclose the name of the Good Samaritan.
Village Head of Tarauni, Alhaji Nura Umar, described the event as historic considering the fact that the three elderly persons had set aside pride to learn the glorious Quran.
He commended them for the feat and called on other elders in the area to emulate them.
Umar also commended the Quranic Teacher for imparting knowledge on the people which will be beneficial to them in life and the life hereafter.
