A 29-year-old girl, Lucy Ishaku, resident in Kano, North West Nigeria says, she “escaped being kidnapped last Sunday 25th August, 2024 while returning from work.”
The girl, who narrated her experience to our Correspondent said, the incident happened around 5.20 pm on the fateful day when she boarded one Keke after closing from work and was going home.
“It was around 5.20pm along Independence Road by Tudun Wada in Kano metropolis when I was going home from work. I stopped one Keke man to take me.
“I told him to take me to New Road by Ibo road in Sabon Gari. We bargained the price and settled on N150 and I entered as the only passenger at that moment.
“We had hardly gone some meters away, exactly Abuja by Club road round about, when the Keke man requested to know the time which I told him. He gave me his handset to check if the time is correct. I collected it and reset it to my own time and handed it back to him.
“The Keke man then told me that he was just coming out for the first time since morning to start work and so wanted to know the time. I didn’t respond to his statement but I wondered at the statement – coming out by 5.20pm to start work.
“Suddenly I became dizzy and my vision getting blurred and losing consciousness. Immediately, without knowing how, I asked the Keke to stop! stop! stop! He stopped and I alighted trembling and unable to pull myself together. In that situation I handed over N100 to him and he zoomed off without asking me any question.
“As the Keke man sped off I began to get myself after which I took another Keke home. By this time, I could see clearly and I narrated the incident to my mother who prayed for me and I became fine.”
Lucy Ishaku said even if she sees the Keke man now, she can not recognize him.
She, therefore, cautioned people to be very careful when they are boarding some of these Keke especially being a lone passenger.
