A new Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Barrister Ibrahim Bawa, a.k.a, Osali says, he wanted to be a Hunter while he was growing up.
Bawa, stated this in an interview with Journalists in Abuja shortly after he was conferred with the prestigious rank of SAN, on Monday, alongside 56 others in a ceremony presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.
Apparently excited over the conferment, Barrister Bawa, who is from Ebese-Ivbiaro community in Owan-East Local Government Area of Edo State, South-South Nigeria said, his father was a renowned Hunter yet, insisted that he must study Law.
“I started my Law practice since 1998. There are people who have applied for SAN several times but, to God be the glory, my mentor had been Barrister David Alegbe, who is the son of the former Speaker, Bendel State House of Assembly, late Benson Alegbe, who incidentally was a very good friend of my father.
“I will say, through Benson Alegbe, I was forced to study Law. Today I am proud of it.
“Ordinarily, I wanted to be a Hunter because, my dad was a well known Hunter. But, my father refused me to be a Hunter saying, the time I will be a Hunter there will be no animals in the forest.
“My father also refused me to join the Army even though I passed the entrance examination to the Nigerian Defense Academy, Kaduna.
“By my environment, the belief is that Lawyers are liers, and they are Agents of of Hellfire. I read Quran before starting Secondary School, so my father insisted I must study Law. It was at this junction that my father took me to meet the late Benson Alegbe who handed me over to his son Barrister David Alegbe,” he narrated.
