Jigawa state council of the Nigeria Union of Journslists, NUJ, in collaboration with the office of Special Assistant to Governor on ICT and digital economy and office of the National security Adviser has organised a one day workshop on cybersecurity and digital awareness for practicing journalists in the state
Our Correspondent reports that the workshop was aimed at enhancing digital safety in journalism practice in view of the vital role Journalists played in safeguarding information in the era of global digitisation
In a welcome address ,the state NUJ Chairman Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse re- itrated the NUJ determination to continue training and retraining of its members on various endeavours to improve professionalism and ethical conduct
He appriciated the support and cooperation of the co-organisers of the workshop which he noted will be of immense benefit to the participants and the NUJ in this modern global era of Information and communications Technology , digitisation and cybersecurity awareness
In his address, special assistant to the Governor on digital economy Malam Murtala Lawan Kazaure assured the people that the “training will serve as a platform for practicing Journalists to be conversant with cybersecurity, digital hygiene as well as shape their experiance in the practice of their profession as watchdog of the society”
He re affirmef his office continued support and committment to collaborate with NUJ to orgnise series of ICT capacity building for both conventional and online Journalists.
Two resource persons and ICT professionals, Malam Bashir Abba and Sadeeq Abubakar Muhammed presented papers and practical guidance lectures on cybersecurity and digital safety at the workshop
Certificates of attendance were later presented to the participants.
