Kano Information Commissioner, Waiya Goes Back To School

Following his interest in Journalism and information management, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, has enrolled in the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, (Kano Centre) to pursue a Degree in Mass Communication.

Waiya, disclosed this, on Friday, when he received members of Nigerian Guild of Editors (Kano-Jigawa Forum) who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

The Commissioner, who described himself as an ally of Journalists said, his burning interest in the practice of journalism, motivated him to also under go training to uplift himself and become a professional adding that already his Ministry has launched the production of a weekly bulletin of which, “he is the Editor-in-Cheif.”

He also told the visiting members of NGE that he was happy to receive them adding that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, was ready to collaborate with the Editors who, he believes, could use their wealth of experience to help reshape the communication system in Kano.

“We will sit down with you and you will help bring about the way forward,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman, Kano-Jigawa Forum of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Professor Sule Ya’u Sule said, the NGE members were in his office to identify with him and commend him over the good work the Commissioner was doing for Kano State since his assumption of duty.

He said, members of the Guild “are highly impressed” with his human development drive which has led him to host different groups of Journalists in the State with a view to enhancing their professional capacity.

“We are ready to partner with the Kano State government through your able leadership of the Information Ministry.

“As far as I am concerned, you are one of the best Information Commissioners so far in Kano.

“We, therefore, hope to assist you to sustain the temple in the area of information dissemination.

“For your information, our members in Kano are capable Editors that can help publicise the State Government activities,” he said.

Prof. Sule also used the occasion to inform the Commissioner about the forthcoming National Convention of the NGE slated to hold in June at Enugu, South East Nigeria.

He urged the Commissioner to attend the convention as a way of promoting Kano state.
