Kano State Government has approved over 470 Million Naira for the state owned Universities to enhance teaching and learning in the institutions.
The approval for the release of the funds was announced by the State Commissioner for Information, Mallam Muhammad Garba, at the end of the weekly meeting of the state Executive Council.
According to Garba, out of the amount, N304m is earned allowance for 287 eligible academic staff of Yusuf Maitama Sule University (YMSU).
Eighty two point one Million Naira has also been approved for the University for direct furnishing and provision of equipment to the Faculty of Science.
The State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, is to receive N84.9m for the payment of outstanding Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) and Teaching Practice Allowance for the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 Academic Sessions.
He said the earned allowance for the Academic staff of the Yusuf Maitama Sule University, which will be paid in installments, will commence in October.
The Commissioner also hinted that the furnishing of the University is for the Phase one, wing “A” Faculty building at the main campus of the university which has fifty six offices and several lecture halls.
Garba further explained that the N84.9m for the SIWES, will cover supervision allowances, transportation, field course and teaching practice supervision to deserving staff of the university.
