Kano To Regulate Preaching, Establish Council Of Ulama

The Kano State Government has announced the enactment of a new law to regulate religious preaching in the State.

It has also approved the establishment of a Council of Ulama through an enabling law from the Kano State House of Assembly.

The State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this while explaining the key aspects of the law to Newsmen in Kano.

“The decision was reached at the State Executive Council meeting, held at the Government House recently.

“The law would coordinate the mode of preaching, sermons to prevent an attack on the leadership of the opposite sect, and incitement of followers via radio, television, newspaper, or any other conventional platform,” he explained.

On the establishment of the Council of Ulama, Mohammed said the Council will be saddled with the responsibility of supervising and regulating all religious sermons in the state.
