Land Of Promise’s Governor Fulfills His Promise

Nigerian Guild of Editors says, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, (the land of promise), Umo Bassey Eno, has fulfilled his promise by hosting the Guild’s 2023 Annual Conference.

President of the Guild, Eze Anaba, who stated this in his address of welcome at the opening ceremony of the conference on Wednesday in Uyo, the state capital said, as a promise kept, the Governor has provided opportunity for the Editors to gather in a “beautiful environment” for the important conference.

Anaba said, this year’s conference is not “just a time to discuss, it’s also an opportunity to expand “our networks and enjoy the hospitality of the people of Uyo.”

He called on the Editors to also see the conference as another time to recommit themselves to the ethics of the Journalism profession.

“Let’s continue to be vigilant and close the gates of our platforms to fake news, misinformation and disinformation.

“Balanced, accurate, factual and fair reports should remain the hallmark of our professional practice, even as we employ fact-checking tools, in disseminating our editorial products to the people,” he reminded them.

The NGE President observed that it was the only way the Editors can effectively and efficiently discharge their constitutional duty of holding power to account and upholding human rights, the rule of law, good governance as well as democratic principles.

He asked Nigeria’s political actors to always remember that a free Press is an oxygen to Democracy and warned them not to do anything that will stifle the Press.
