By Abdulkadir Mohammed

Following the Nigerian Government’s announcement that it has lifted the ban on Twitter operations in the country, Twitter has expressed gratitude over the development.

The Chairman Technical Committee Nigeria-Twitter Engagement & Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi disclosed the decision by the Federal government to lift the ban.

He said in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja that the approval was given following a memo written to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami.

On their part, Twitter said that they were deeply committed to Nigeria, where according to them, “Twitter is used by people for commerce, cultural engagement and civic participation.”

In a tweet, the organisation wrote, “we are pleased that Twitter has been restored for everyone in Nigeria. Our mission in Nigeria & around the world is to serve the public conversation.”
