Report from Kano, North West Nigeria says the State Hisbah Board has arrested a man named Taufiq at Sabuwar Gandu area over allegations of engaging in witchcraft.
Deputy Commander of the Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudden confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to journalists on Friday.
According to Sheikh Mujahid, the arrest followed several complaints from residents in the area, prompting the Hisbah officials to open an investigation into Taufiq’s activities.
He said residents were unsettled by the said practice, and decided to report to authorities.
Mujahid Aminudden said: “After concluding our findings, Hisbah operatives moved in and arrested the suspect.”
The statement added that Taufiq will be charged to court for allegedly practicing witchcraft, which is against the law in Kano State.
