Man Cries For Help As Wife Delivers 11 Babies

Yahaya Nafiu and some of his babies

A 56-year-old man, Yahaya Nafiu, from Ilorin in Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, is reportedly facing a significant challenge after his wife, Alake, aged 54, gave birth to 11 babies in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

This extraordinary event has left Nafiu appealing for financial assistance to care for his newborns and their mother.

The delivery occurred in two separate instances. The first set of six babies were born on July 7, 2024, followed by another set of five babies on August 14, 2024.

Out of the total 11 babies delivered, eight are boys and three are girls; however, two of the girls did not survive the delivery process.

Nafiu confirmed that while two babies died during childbirth, the remaining nine are healthy.

Financial constraints

Nafiu expressed deep concern regarding the financial burden associated with caring for such a large number of infants. He highlighted several challenges facing him – raising funds for marriage rites necessary to formalize his relationship with Alake in accordance with cultural practices; covering medical bills incurred during and after childbirth; and obtaining a police report required for administrative purposes.

The costs involved in bringing the children back home to Ilorin further complicate their situation.

Medical complications and spiritual beliefs

According to Nafiu’s account, there were complications during Alake’s pregnancy that led to difficulties in determining her condition through medical examinations.

According to him, doctors were unable to successfully perform operations due to what he believes could be spiritual influences affecting their capabilities.

Nafiu described witnessing what he considers a miracle regarding how the children were delivered after an extended pregnancy period lasting over three years.

In light of this unusual situation, community leaders have responded positively. Alh Abdulmumini Abdulmalik, president of the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), acknowledged Nafiu’s plight and urged both government officials and philanthropists within the Ilorin Emirate to provide financial support.

He expressed joy at this rare occurrence and emphasized its historical significance within their community.

Yahaya Nafiu’s appeal for help underscores not only personal hardship but also highlights broader issues related to healthcare access and community support systems in Nigeria.

His family’s extraordinary experience serves as a reminder of both human resilience and the need for collective assistance in times of crisis. – NS
