Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, has refused to sign into law the media bill passed by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
The Media Bill is asking for 70 years as retirement age for media workers.
While hosting members of the Correspondent Chapel in Government House, the Governor said the bill was not only anti-youth, but that, if signed into law, would affect productivity of the media industry in the state.
“The media bill is asking for 70 years as retirement age for media workers. Every year, Universities churn out thousands of graduates. Where do you expect them to work when you keep one person in office till the age of 70 years? I can’t sign a bill that affects the growth of youths,” he said.
Fintiri, however, assured journalists working in the state of safety, pointing out that his administration would not relent in its efforts to improve the living condition of media workers.
He appealed to journalists to report facts and be fair to all parties.
